Born in Les Cayes, Poisson showed an early interest in art. In 1945, three years after moving to Port-au-Prince where he worked successively as an export import salesman and a Haitian Air Corps sergeant, he began paint seriously.
He was one of the first painters to achieve recognition through the Centre d'Art. His early pictures sold immediately. These introspective scenes of domestic life painted with an airy atmospheric touch are mysteriously suggestive.
